The human papillomavirus, or HPV has been a worry for women for some time now, but a new study released in the [url=http://jco.ascopubs.org/content/early/2011/10/03/JCO.2011.36.4596.abstract]Journal[/url] of Clinical Oncology suggests HPV may be transmitted from genitals to throats along with cancer risk. in other words, the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer in women, can also be spread through unprotected oral sex. HPV can cause oro-pharyngeal cancer in both men and women.
"[b]Increases in the population-level incidence and survival of oropharyngeal cancers in the United States since 1984 are caused by HPV infection[/b]" is the conclusion from the study.
Are dentists going to start teaching sex-ed while you get your teeth cleaned? Plan on some serious changes the next time you find yourself sitting in the dentist chair with the bright light shining in your eyes. Don't be overly surprised while sitting there, and being advised you should consider flossing more often and have “evening treats” less often for better oral hygiene.
